Training formats

Private Lessons vs. Board & Train

Both formats are highly effective, but they differ in structure and approach. Here’s how each one works so you can choose the option that best fits you and your dog. You can also combine them in a hybrid of both.

Learn together

Private Lessons

Lessons begin in an environment that is conducive to your dog learning the initial steps of training. Once we set this foundation, we teach you and your dog how to enjoy any activity or setting that fits your lifestyle.

  • You and your dog learn side by side, at your own pace
  • Skills are practiced in the places you actually go
  • Build up to the highest levels of real-world distraction
  • Refreshers, follow-ups, and training guides included

Real-world settings we’ve trained in include dog-friendly stores and restaurants, parks, hiking, camping, biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, games, playgrounds, flights, errands, chores, and car rides.

Immersive

Board & Train

Dogs spend the entire program reinforcing training by living with a professional dog trainer. They practice in various environments with the highest levels of distraction, which gives them the tools to confidently navigate every facet of life.

  • Your dog lives with the trainer for the full program
  • Daily “pupdates” with pictures and videos
  • Harness with seat belt or kennel in vehicles, always
  • Go-home lessons so you can keep the training going

Dogs reliably perform commands as long as their people follow through with their part of the training, which is why every board & train includes teaching you, too.

What’s covered

Programs deliver easy, remarkable results based on your goals and lifestyle.

Basic obedience commands consist of the following. After you and your dog have a solid understanding of these, we teach you how to confidently and reliably perform them with real-world distractions.

“Come”
recall within arm’s reach.
“Break”
rewards and releases a dog from a command.
“Sit”
sit and hold the position until released.
“Place”
go to a defined spot you choose (bed, chair, bench, etc.) and stay there until released.
“Down”
lie down and hold the position until released.
“Heel”
walk or run at either your left or right side.
“Leash manners”
no pulling on the leash.
“Steps toward off-leash reliability”
confidently managing your pup without a leash. This may not be an option for a pup experiencing severe reactivity or aggression.
“Off”
stops unwanted behaviors such as jumping, growling, biting, counter-surfing, excessive barking, digging, chasing prey, etc.
“Drop”
drop any item in their mouth.

Our approach

Training is used to integrate dogs into your daily life, not add to your to-do list.

We teach your dog how to partake in the activities that are significant to you. We value showing your dog how to not only be a part of, but also enjoy all aspects of your life. Whether this be at home, work, hobbies, activities with your kids, walks, errands, park adventures, traveling, or the great outdoors, it is pawsible to enjoy time together with your furry best friend.

We will work with any dog, despite any behavioral issue. Some of the many examples include reactivity, aggression, overexcitement, prey drive, off-leash reliability, tricks, and specialized training. We also show how to appropriately interact around other dogs, other animals, prey, mail carriers, new friends, kids, babies, and elderly folks.

We do everything in our power to help clients succeed. We utilize the best techniques dog training has to offer in addition to the learning style that best suits you, and we offer refreshers, follow-up sessions, and training guides to ensure your goals are reached.

We are also very knowledgeable about how breed, gender, and age affect an individual’s learning style. This helps us better understand how each dog navigates training, behavioral modification, drive, motivation, play, and social interactions. We are cognizant of how breed and individual needs, whether that be body condition, skeletal structure, snout size, or overall health, are affected by exercise, weather, and environmental conditions.

We have experience and education that provides insight about how food affects the body. This knowledge helps navigate allergies, food restrictions, skin issues, digestion issues, and energy levels. With your consent, we can add food and supplements to your dog’s diet to support longevity, health, and energy during a heightened exercise and training regime.
